About Us
The program is built on several components; academics, culture, image, life skills, sisterhood and networking. Through our life-changing program young girls are assisted in self-awareness and self-improvement as they are encouraged and supported to move towards the fulfillment of personal, professional, financial, educational, relational and spiritual growth goals.
The initiative is devoted to responding to the needs of adolescent females through public education, advocacy, and volunteer mobilization. The goal of the Someone’s Daughter is to help girls to develop pride in themselves, their bodies and in their relationships with peers, and to maintain core values that will protect them from negative influences, identify and enhance their leadership skills and support their success as adults. We are committed to decreasing teen pregnancy and abortion rates, decreasing high school dropout rates, incarceration, and gang violence while increasing achievement of academic excellence, increased volunteerism, participation in community-oriented events, choosing of healthy and positive alternatives and an overall improved quality of life. |
Someone’s Daughter seeks to identify and support effective strategies for engaging adolescent females in character education and leadership development opportunities in order to:
• Expand their repertoire of pro-social behaviors • Decrease their likelihood of involvement in risk behaviors (early pregnancy, juvenile delinquent activities, substance abuse, etc.) • Increase their academic performance • Enhance their bonding with community through civic activities • Increase their alliances with positive peer groups • Increase their self-efficacy |
